If your child was diagnosed ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) you need to analyze his/her sleep carefully. One of the reasons of it may be certain sleep problem (snoring, sleep apnea or restless legs syndrome).
Some time ago scientists found out, that about 50 % of children with ADHD had poor sleep due to certain sleep disorder. Parents of such children certified that their child had bad dreams, was sleepy in the mornings, had sleep apnea or restless legs disorder. Also another research among children with ADHD was held. It proved that the majority of children with ADHD had unsound sleep and it’s hard for them to wake up in the morning.
It’s obvious that sleep disorders are connected to ADHD in some way. Particularly, snoring may lead to this widespread disease. Snoring occurs when muscle tissues in the throat prevent the air from freely circulating in the air passages.
Snoring results in poor sleep and sluggishness the whole next day. Statistics tells as that snoring occurs more often among children with indistinct ADHD than among healthy children in the age from 5 to 7 years old. Another research showed that children, who are more likely to have ADHD, snore more.
Children that snore have worse results on attention tests than regular kids. Also children-snorers show lower results on IQ-tests and have less language abilities. Some doctors advice to cut out adenoids and tonsils. Such surgery will help to get rid of snoring and avoid harmful pills.
